Desert Eagle

One of the most iconic pistols in movies and games is the Desert Eagle, designed by Magnum Research and manufactured by Israel Military Industries (IWI) in 1985. It’s one of my favorite weapons, and as a former weapons and hard-surface artist, I couldn’t pass up the chance to create one myself - especially focusing on texture and material creation. My passion for macro photography and other reference images & artworks has taught me how to observe and translate most details into Substance Painter.

My biggest takeaway from this project is that an artist's eye is the most valuable tool - not the software or equipment. For me it's a constant learning and after 7 years of professional experience it still is. Studying the work of the best in our industry has been very helpful. Analyzing other artists’ assets helps to read references and understand material layering on a deeper level. Games like Escape from Tarkov, Call of Duty and Metro Exodus, along with the work of their talented artists, have always been my go-to sources for inspiration and guidance when it comes to achieving realistic texture details and an interesting variation of roughness values.
